Brymo's Oso: A wizard's wand to woo 'Wobe Music' lovers
With this project, Brymo experimented on heavy and different sounds.
The genuity and wizardry of Olawale Ashimi, aka Brymo, is in tandem with how he creates his musical pieces.
Over the years, he has shown masterful oratory in creating masterpieces through alternative (folklore music) that appeals to lovers of such music, perhaps, not the larger percentage of folks in Nigeria (the artiste has been heavily underrated).
Nigerian music lovers eenjoy afro-pop music laced with lame lines (weak verses) and 'boom boom' sound.
This kind of music only last for months as hit, perhaps, not for years as evergreen. “Wobe Music” lovers don't care, so far it's a hit for the moment. And for gusto, they wobble to this sound consciously andunconsciously.
Brymo's latest album, Oso, surprisingly has changed the music meal table of Wobe Music lovers.
With a wand in his hand, Brymo's has cooked a delicious meal of music to the tastebuds of this aforementioned music lovers.
Oso, an album of 11 tracks and 38 minutes long, opens a tantalizing aroma of good music with No Be Me, a song that speaks about the struggle, hustle and bustle of mankind in diverse areas of life.
This track orates to that young lady who is in hurry to leave the spinsterhood and get married because the "day dey quick dey dark ooo", and to the politician who knows the worries of his people, promised them heaven and earth, but forgot them when he got to the top, and unperturbed about their lamentations.
This track gives a moment of awakening to every human race running different race.
In Mama, the artist opens his mind to sing to his mother about how things hasn't changed since she birthed him.
With this project, Brymo experimented on heavy and different sounds. Entropy comes with a soulful sound that transcends into a nostalgic feeling of a man who finds it difficult to forget the fragrance of an ex-lover's cologne.
Through a Jazz-infused beat, the artiste sings; "Darling you are loving, loving a selfish man, everyone is whispering ee my baby is here, it is entropy, entropy, took you and left me memories" of unrequited love.
At a time, when religion is of diverse beliefs, and people seeking rights for different communities, God Is In Your Mind sermonizes about how you can live, judge yourself and do whatever your mind instructs you. The commandments has dwells inside your mind.
Aside from leading the visuals for this project, Heya comes with imagery for all and sundry. "Everybody say dem dey go their way, but I no think say we dey block each other way".
The imagery as depicted in the visuals of this track see Brymo almost nude. With this, the artist passed a message that; even if you were born into this world as twins, one came in before other and by so, no one impedes the flow, growth and the movement of others.
And if you enjoy folklore sounds, Banuso is what you should put on a repeat as it spices up the flow of Brymo's oratory in his native language--- Yoruba, through bata drums.
"Patience and Goodluck dem dey close like air", hmmn, in this era of political brouhaha, how the artiste created a meaningful piece from names of people who are far from that nomenclature. In Patience and Goodluck, the artiste went further to say, " if you wait you go see say good times are here again".
On this voyage, when you are trying to figure out; why is life so unkind to mankind? Brymo tells you 'Time is so kind", and patience is a virtue.
Olumo takes the artiste to Abeokuta, a city in Southwest Nigeria, here, he eulogizes the Wizard from Ake, the Paramount ruler of the literary kingdom, Professor Oluwole Soyinka, "Mo lo s' Ake, mo fe lori Ojogbon, mon lo s' Abeokuta mo fe lori... Omo Osoyinkaaa, Osoyinkaaa, Osoyinkaaaa ooo". Now you already know how Brymo coined the album title.
Olanrewaju, my favourite of this masterpiece, here, the artiste took his time to give his son stern warning.
It is 2018, few months to the general elections, Money Launderers and Heartbreakers should constantly ring bells into your ears. Come 2019, don't let them break your heartbeats again. A 4-year relationship with these money launderers is hell and no joke.
With this masterpiece, we all (Wobe Music lovers inclusive) can attest to the fact that Brymo is a Wizard and magician, who with a wand in his hand has created an exceptional album on another wizardry level.
